DKW

The Little Bike That Wins The Big Races !

My DKW is a 1972 Boondocker, 125cc, 6 speed which I bought new in '72. The list price was 930$ and I traded a Hodaka B model & recv 400$ for it. I had been riding in enduros and was dissatisfied with the Hodaka shifter mechanism jamming when it got silt inside after creek crossings. I set about to lighten the DKW as much as possible and modify it to suit my needs. It has the Motoplat ignition and is now operating with its 3rd system which has lasted since the 70s when it was installed. I chose the model with Betor telescopic forks rather than the more well known leading-link setup mostly because I was familiar with telescopics & it is much better looking in my opinion. I have listed all the modifications done to this machine & most were done prior to 1974. It now weighs 203lbs dry (without fuel) and I do not believe there is a lighter street-legal DKW on the planet.
